Janaka Liyanage

Janaka Liyange always knew he wanted to earn a higher degree in computer science. After earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka in 2006, Liyanage decided to come to the Computer Science MS program at UCF. "I was very interested in computer vision and UCF has a great computer vision program," he shares. While a part of the UCF Computer Vision Lab, Liyanage, developed a system to measure vehicle speed from video. As a research assistant with the Institute for Simulation and Training (IST), he designed a system to overlay multiplayer games in their super computer. "That design is being implemented now at the IST," he says. Liyanage graduated from the program in fall 2009 and is currently working as a software engineer at Facebook, Inc. in Palo Alto, California.

Surbhi Bhardwaj

Surbhi Bhardwaj earned her bachelor's of engineering in Electronics nad Communication in India then worked in the IT sector for four years before deciding to enroll in the master’s of Computer Science program. She was first attracted to UCF due to the continuing growth of the institution. Electronics and Electrical Engineering were always areas of interest to Bhardwaj, and she developed an interest in computer programming as an undergraduate. Some of the things she appreciates most about her program include the detailed structure of the courses and the professionalism of the faculty. “Dr. Mostafa Bassiouni is one the best professors I have come across. I feel fortunate to take his courses. His way of teaching really helped me to improve," states Bhardwaj.
